Twenty-nine year old Bo Bice is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He began his career at an early age, singing and performing in contests and shows. At only twelve years of age he achieved his first significant milestone, winning a statewide competition for vocals at the Civic Center in Atlanta. At thirteen, he moved to London, England where he began writing and performing his original music. Bo began his professional music career when he returned to the Southeastern United States in 1995.
While in school for music at Calhoun College, he met some of the members of the band he would spend five years of his life with, Purge. Purge has performed throughout the Southeast at events such as the Waterfront Extravaganza and the Exit Inn (Nashville, TN), two engagements at Big Spring Jam, Music in the Park and Rocking the Square (Huntsville, AL). The band also opened shows for other acts such as Son of Slam, Warrant, Mothers Finest, and Blackfoot. Purge also has a list of "Battle of the Bands" victories. They have recorded at Jeff Everette's "Moontown Productions" and Niles Clement's "Clementsvisions" (Nashville, TN). While recording at "Clementsvisions", they enlisted the musical skills of rock veteran Johnny Neil of the Allman Brother's Band, on their CD "Exgratia" that received airplay throughout the Southeast.
After leaving Purge and enrolling in the University of North Alabama's music program, Bo found a new outlet for his songs. Playing three years in a row at the W.C. Handy Festival proved to be helpful, too. Muscle Shoals, the recording home of such greats as Aretha Franklin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Rolling Stones, was just what he needed to re-light his fire. While playing around town, Bo was able to perform with people such as Steve Cropper (Otis Redding's Guitarist), Kelvin Holly (Little Richard's Guitarist) and Spooner Oldham (Neil Young's Keyboardist). These experiences were enough to inspire his third CD "Recipe for Flavor" recorded at Ava Aldridge's Village One Studios (Muscle Shoals). This CD shows off his wide range of influences ranging from blues, rock, folk and soul.
After a three-month stay abroad doing shows in Dublin, Ireland and also appearing on the Open House Show "Good Day Ireland", Bo returned to the U.S. and teamed up with longtime friend and bass player John Cooper ( Purge & SugarMoney ).
Now living in Helena, AL, Bo is able to enjoy the benefits of having not only time, but also a recording studio. Bo has produced CD's for several other artists and has full creative control over all the music that the team of SugarMoney has forthcoming.
He recently made national headlines when he secured a position on the final 24 contestants on American Idol. To date Bo has made it as far as the final 10 and is still going strong.
